Large-flowered Trillium or White Trillium

Large-flowered Trillium [Trillium grandiflorum] or White Trillium photos taken in Gerton on 4 May 2013, off a little roadside turn-off. It’s a member of the Lily (Liliaceae) famly. Newcomb’s Wildflower Guide, pages 124-125, states that it’s found in “rich woods” and it flowers white, turning pink as it fades. USDA Plants Listing: Trillium grandiflorum

Henbit Deadnettle [Lamium amplexicaule] found in Fletcher, NCon 25 April 2013. It’s a member of the Mint (Lamiaceae) family with a square stem. Wildflowers of the Carolinas, pages 108-109, states it blooms in spring and summer in “dry soils, old fields, disturbed sites, parks, sun.” USDA Plants Listing: Lamium amplexicaule
