Thomas Canyon in the Ruby Mountains, near Spring Creeek, Nevada on 9 and 10 June 2021. It is part of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, under the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It was sunny, windy, and relatively warm when we arrived, but there were snow pellets on our tent when we woke up the following morning.

Heartleaf Foamflower [Tiarella cordifolia] found in Pisgah National Forest on 10 May 2015. It’s a member of the Saxifrage (Saxifragaceae) family that blooms in spring. Newcomb’s Wildflower Guide, pages 178-179, states it grows in rich woods. USDA Plants Listing: Tiarella cordifolia

These photographs were most likely taken after 1912, before the Southwells moved to Revelstoke, British Columbia. They were living in North Bend, BC at the time.
