Viceroy Butterfly [Limenitis archippus] on Queen Anne’s Lace [Daucus carota], found off Mills Gap Road in Fletcher, North Carolina on 28 August 2013. Queen Anne’s Lace or Wild Carrot is a member of the Carrot (Apiaceae) family. Newcomb’s Wildflower Guide, pages 220-221, states it blooms in summer and fall and is a “very common weed of dry fields and waste places.”
